Recent projects include matching the British Red Cross with lawyers Ashurst to look at legalising cryptocurrency as a form of donation, and matching WaterAid with design agency Studiomade to get affordable toilets into the hands of over 120 million people in Nigeria. 

We’ve seen fantastic traction since launch and have just closed a seed round of funding to drive our growth. We’ve secured contracts and delivered matches with some of the City’s biggest firms and are aiming to deliver over £420m of value and 600,000 hours to organisations changing the world over the next 5 years.

the role

We are currently building our MVP and looking for a CTO who is able to review, improve, adapt and grow the existing platform into a scalable product which will meet our vision, ambition and strategy.  

The role of the CTO will be crucial in building upon and transforming our MVP and the traction we have, into a scalable software product. In particular, we’ll be looking to this person to: 

  • Define and take ownership of the technical direction, prioritisation and roadmap for us to achieve our product vision.

  • Lead the development of our platform, core infrastructure and feature rollout, 

  • Produce work to support growth of our MVP, high quality engineering and future machine learning abilities.

  • Work closely with our CEO / Founder and the operations team to prioritise and build user requirements into our MVP within an agile environment.

  • Lead and recruit the dev team as we grow.

As one of our first recruits into management, you will be instrumental in setting the tone and culture of the organisation. We’re keen to support your personal and professional development too, so any specific experience you want to gain through the role, feel free to share.

key responsibilities

  • Review, test and refactor code build by MVP team to make it fit for purpose, including reviewing the tech stack, application architecture and ensuring a scalable infrastructure

  • Design and implement B2B APIs and the required infrastructure

  • Provide engineering support on our user product from a backend perspective

  • Lead buildout of the testing and integration pipelines for the different components of the platform

  • Generally happy to get stuck in on big and small tasks, as a key part of the Matchable startup team!

ideal candidate

  • At least 5 years experience in fast growing technology business, leading engineering teams and projects.

  • Have experience with API integrations

  • Know when to spend the time doing it right and when to hack it together

  • Values driven, keen to make a difference and build a team to support this 

  • Ability to be a generalist helping the team with tasks large and small, with clean and maintainable code

  • Flexible - comfortable with ambiguity and changing priorities, highly resilient, work well under pressure

  • Self-driven, happy to work and drive things forward independently whilst also being able to lead a team effectively

  • Experience in: Full Stack Development - including Python, HTML5, CSS3. Proficient understanding of client-side scripting and JavaScript frameworks, such as ReactJS, VueJS, or Angular. Knowledge of SQL and databases. Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git. 

  • Desirable - interest in ML technologies and SQL, R or Hadoop.
