YOUR MATCH GUIDE
OUR TOP TIPS FOR YOUR FIRST CONVERSATION WITH A POTENTIAL VOLUNTEER
EXCITING TIMES… YOU’VE BEEN INTRODUCED TO A VOLUNTEER! WE’VE CREATED A GUIDE TO HELP YOU NAVIGATE THAT FIRST CONVERSATION TO ENSURE YOU GET THE MOST OUT OF IT ✨
ARRANGE A ZOOM CALL IDEALLY
We know you’ve probably got zoom fatigue (we definitely have!) but we’d suggest that a video call is usually the best way to chat to a volunteer for the first time. It helps to make this all a little more personal and allows you to build better rapport. We tend to find that over video, people are a little more themselves so this can help you to decide if you want to commit to working with this volunteer on your project!
DISCUSS YOUR PROJECT IN DETAIL
This is your chance to go into as much detail as you can about the project you have in mind. Our project briefs include a paragraph that you have already provided us with but this is a good time for you to let the volunteer know exactly what you have in mind and how they may be able to help.
DISCUSS THEIR SKILLS
This call is to determine whether or not this individual is a good fit for your project so don’t be scared to ask them about their experience and skills. This is their chance to let you know how they feel they can contribute!
AGREE TIME COMMITMENT
Ask your volunteer how much time they would be able to commit to your project. Your needs need to align with their commitment. Please do remember that they all work full or part-time jobs so most likely won’t be able to join you full time! The companies we partner with typically give 1-2 days of volunteer time and up to 6 days of paid volunteering time to employees to fit in alongside their work.
CONFIRM NEXT STEPS
It might be obvious that this is a perfect match and you may decide there and then on the call that you will work together. No worries if this is not the case though, you/the volunteer may need some time to think about it. Either way, we recommend confirming the next steps.
LET US KNOW HOW IT WENT
Please do let Sophie and Sareeka know how your conversation went! Let us know if you are happy to work with the volunteer or if you are after someone else.
