Borro + Matchable Volunteers

Borro are on a mission to empower parents to be more sustainable, and we recently Matched them with Joanna, a Lead Technology Manager from Deutsche Bank, as well as Ferial and Josephine, two Paid Search Executives from Dentsu, to provide some marketing and content support.

Borro are an impact start up founded by Sarah, after Sarah had children and realised firsthand how hard it is as a parent to make sustainable clothing choices for your baby when their rate of growth is so quick. Sarah found it surprisingly difficult to continually source new baby clothing that met her rightfully high sustainable standards, without breaking the bank.

And so Borro was born (no pun intended!).

Borro acts as a rental return for baby clothing, allowing parents to trade in old clothing that their children have outgrown and swap this for new clothing. This creates a cyclical business model that is much more sustainable than its fast fashion alternative, so it’s better for the environment and better for parents’ and carers’ wallets!

As an early stage impact-driven start up, Borro were seeking volunteer support in a few areas to help them scale and help as many parents and carers as possible, such as some guidance on digital marketing, as well as some help writing blog posts for their community.

So we Matched Borro with Ferial, Josephine and Joanna to get Sarah the support she needs!

Dentsu recently organised a global social impact initiative called One Day For Change in July, across which all Dentsu employees were encouraged to get out, give back and make a positive difference in the world. As part of this amazing initiative, Ferial and Josephine Matched with Borro through Matchable, and they buddied up to offer Sarah some social media support.

Josephine and Ferial worked together to put together some ideas to enhance Borro’s social media strategy via Instagram and TikTok. It was great having their expertise in this area show us where to focus and to give specific pointers on how to proceed. Going forward we now have a much clearer idea what our social media strategy is and how to execute it, which I’m sure will result in increased brand awareness. Thank you Ferial and Josephine!

Meanwhile, Joanna from Deutsche Bank was volunteering in a separate area by generating some blog content for Borro, building up her copywriting skills whilst helping to position Borro as a thought leader in their community on all things parenting and sustainability.

As a new mum herself recently returning to work, Joanna was able to provide a unique insight and put together an awesome blog on the pros and cons of sleep training. Check it out here.

Jo offered to write a blog post for Borro’s website to help drive traffic and provide advice to fellow parents. She wrote about her own experience trying to get her baby to sleep which is always a popular topic and which is now live on the website and we’ll be able to promote it on our social media to help build our community. Jo was very open to guidance and produced exactly what I’d requested. Hopefully she enjoyed writing it as much as I enjoyed reading it!

Hear what Joanna had to say about her Matchable volunteering experience below.

I had just come back to work from maternity leave and I thought [Matchable] would be a good way to start back my volunteering journey. The whole process was very easy and what a great way to give back to the community... Lindsay [from Matchable] got in touch and guided me throughout the process. She was very helpful, patient and always available to guide you whenever you need her. I don’t think I would have the same experience if it wasn’t for her.

As a new mum, Borro was one of the projects that was recommended to me. I had my initial chat with Sarah, the founder, and I am glad I chose Borro. It is such a great concept and Sarah is very passionate about this. I am not a writer by trade and I don’t really blog, so this was quite a challenge for me. However, Sarah has been nothing but supportive throughout the whole process (and very patient with my ever changing workload). She provided me with guidance and ideas to help me start. I wish her and her team the best with everything, and thank you for letting me be part of the community.”
