Quarterly Volunteer Round Up: Matches Made in Heaven

We’re excited to launch a new quarterly volunteer round up to celebrate all the awesome work completed by volunteers in our community – Matchable-certified matches made in heaven!

At Matchable, we like to think of ourselves a bit like Cupid, Matching awesome employees to the volunteering opportunities at our impact organisations that best suit their passions, interests, and availability. These opportunities tackle a wide range of global issues aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainability Development Goals, and employees are empowered to support the causes most personally meaningful to them.

It’s important to give credit where credit is due and celebrate the amazing volunteering impact of our community, who are always going above and beyond on their mission to give back and make their global impact. That’s why this quarter, we’ve launched our new ‘Volunteer of the Month’ initiative!

For our July feature, we celebrated the incredible voluntary work completed by Andrada from Dentsu. Andrada has set the Matchable record for completing the most projects, with a whopping 7 projects under her belt so far since signing up to Matchable in December 2021. That's essentially a project a month! Andrada has used both her company volunteering time and her personal time to give back and make a positive difference in the world, supporting a range of causes including LGBTQ+ inclusion, mental wellbeing, and sustainability.

It’s been so incredible to watch Andrada get involved in project after project, selflessly offering her support even through busy periods. Her enthusiasm and positivity is infectious and inspiring, and her volunteering work has contributed to numerous Sustainable Development Goals, including Good Health and Wellbeing (3), Gender Equality (5), and Sustainable Cities and Community (11), to name but a few!
— Lindsay, Volunteer Matchmaker at Matchable
Matchable has allowed me to fit volunteering into my busy day-to-day schedule, as I feared a full time job (as a previous freelancer with more time-freedom) would restrict me from such opportunities. I got to help causes I care about, most notably LGBTQ+ causes (as a member of the community myself) and mental health related causes (as someone who struggled with depression and anxiety for many years). Finding matches is easy and Matchable helps you and your match along the way. Opportunities can range from just a few hours, which is what I needed and could commit to, to long term collaborations. Helping others is rewarding in so many ways and I could not recommend it enough!
— Andrada, Matchable Volunteer

For our August Volunteer of the Month, we celebrated Alexander from Catapult Connected Places!

Alexander has been working with Phioneers over the last few months, dedicating countless hours of support to help them on their mission to improve the quality of life for sub-Saharan African people living in slums and shanty towns. Through Alexander’s support, Phioneers have been able to successfully relaunch their website and develop a better strategy for how to best scale their organisation. This has put them in the perfect position to begin their fundraising journey to build their first home in Africa – see details here.

I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Ousman and Larry [at Phioneers]. I was raised in South Africa, I have seen first-hand the inhuman conditions that people are forced to live in. Phioneers mission is close to my heart and having built websites before, I felt this was the perfect opportunity to help an organisation to make a lasting impact in Africa. Ousman and I have connected on LinkedIn and will remain in touch as I follow the Phioneers journey. Thank you for connecting us!
— Alexander, Matchable Volunteer

Hear what Ousman had to say about the impact of Alexander’s support below.

Alexander has helped us take a second look at our website and how we are presenting ourselves. With his help, we have been able to develop a better strategy that really shows who we are, what we are doing and how other organisations/individuals can collaborate or work with us. He is also instrumental in the actual web design work too. Our web presence is important to us and we wouldn’t have been able to achieve the outcomes we were looking for without him. Many thanks to Alexander and Catapult.
— Ousman, Founder & CEO of Phioneers

If you know an employee that’s selflessly giving back on their Matchable volunteering project, please drop us a message so we can give them a shout out!
