Topup Truck + Dentsu
We matched Topup Truck with Daisy and Aminat from Dentsu so they could lend a much needed hand on the Topup Truck float, thereby promoting zero waste shopping in local communities.
Each year, the United Nations celebrates World Habitat Day on Oct 3. This is a time for us as a society to pay more attention to the detrimental effects of climate change on different global habitats, and go one step further and take action.
A significant contributor to the exponential degradation of our world’s habitats is plastic pollution, with this being particularly detrimental on marine and beach habitats.
Did you know that it’s estimated that UK households throw away a staggering 100 billion pieces of plastic packaging a year? Or that the UK produces more plastic waste per person than almost any other country, most of which is then sent abroad to be disposed of?
It is becoming more obvious than ever that recycling and re using isn’t enough to combat the rapid rates of commercialism and consumerism that our society currently operates on. Alternatives are needed.
One of the awesome impact organisations in our network tackling this very issue is Topup Truck.
Topup Truck is a mobile refill store aiming to bring zero waste shopping together with convenience and community spirit. Currently operating in London from an old electric milk float, it has a range of quality, ethically-sourced pantry, bathroom and household products without individual packaging. Customers shop from their doorstep, with their own containers whilst catching up with neighbours.
Born out of love for local communities and a deep concern about the plastic pollution generated by the retail industry, Topup Truck has grown to prevent over 25,000 pieces of plastic from being used within less than a year of operation.
Encouraging zero waste shopping is no easy feat, and requires all hands on deck! We Matched topup truck with dynamic volunteering duo Daisy and Aminat from Dentsu, who headed to Hackney for the day to lend a hand on the truck.
Sustainability, and zero waste in particular, is a cause close to both Daisy and Aminat’s hearts, in both a personal and professional capacity.
Not only were Daisy and Aminat able to make a positive global impact with their volunteering, but they were able to do so as a team, taking the day out of the office together to go out and give back. You can buddy up on any of the projects on the Matchable platform, and we love seeing our community maximise this opportunity to add in a team-building element to their volunteering day!
From everyone at Matchable, thank you Daisy and Aminat for taking the time out to give back to this amazing cause!
If you know an employee that’s selflessly giving back on their Matchable volunteering project, please drop us a message so we can give them a shout out!
