Meet The Founder: Vero from Storyskimo
As part of our series showcasing our amazing non-profit and impact startup community, WE CHATTED TO Vero, the incredible founder of Storyskimo, who are on a mission to help children become more confident communicators through the power of audio. She tells us what inspired her to start Storyskimo, the challenges they face, and what the future holds.
Did you ever think you would found an impact startup?
I had been working with tech startups for many years before I started Storyskimo. In fact, I was helping big FMCG brands collaborate with innovative tech startups. Those projects I could relate to the most were often those with a positive environmental or societal impact. When I became a mum in 2015, I knew my next venture would be about offering children a brighter future.
What was your vision when you first started STORYSKIMO?
It all started from my personal experience as a mum. I introduced audiobooks to my then 3-and-a-half year-old daughter, Anouk. I never thought Anouk could enjoy the experience of listening to stories with no imagery as much as she did. Both her teachers and I quickly noticed her speech development progressing enormously, her vocabulary enriched, and she also became a fantastic creative, yet structured, storyteller.
The vision was to create a fun product that educators and parents could use with children to nurture their love for storytelling
How do you think that STORYSKIMO will benefit children?
Research shows that listening to audiobooks boost children's imagination, love for literature, and literacy.
Where do you see STORYSKIMO in the future?
We want to become the Audible for Children x the Kahoot! of children’s audio storytelling!
