Movember’s mission is to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25% by 2030 by raising awareness around prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. Sadly, suicide still remains the most common cause of death for men aged 20 to 49.

The aim of the Lululemon Movember Session was to open up conversations around male mental health and explore techniques that could help participants to support themselves and others.

Movember Ambassador Jono Selvadurai, Matthew Steans from Stigma Statistics, and motivational speaker, Esmée Gummer led a courageous and open conversation amongst the 30+ attendees: personal experiences were shared and, together, we considered factors such as social pressures, expectations, and the anxiety that can stem from our hyper-connected modern day.

Our partners all brought powerful insight, humour, and openness to this difficult topic and collectively shared both small steps that everyone could take alongside innovative projects that are changing how men will be able to seek mental health support moving forwards.

The evening ended with some banter, pizza from Homeslice and non-alcoholic bubbles from Thomson & Scott, with lovely gifts from Earl of East.

The Movember Session in collaboration with Matchable and Lululemon was such an inspiring, impactful and honest evening. I’m so thankful for the guidance from Matchable in being able to bring together and connect amazing speakers to help us all continue the conversations on men’s health and the stigmas surrounding them. From this event we’ve been able to help raise funds for the Movember Foundation and more importantly start some powerful chats in our community.
