Stigma Statistics + VCXY
WE MATCHED MENTAL HEALTH startup STIGMA STATISTICS WITH LAWYERS AT VCXY TO DISCUSS THE LEGALITY OF USING INDIVIDUALS’ DATA TO PREVENT SUICIDES.
We are currently facing an epidemic, with 800,000 suicides occurring every year globally. Stigma Statistics believe this demands a change in thinking and approach, with their mission being to end the suicide epidemic by providing complete visibility of the issue in real time. Their platform will enable the delivery of more effective and targeted solutions, and prevention, through full visibility of at-risk individuals and historic suicides across the UK and globally.
Stigma Statistics’ data-based approach meant they required some legal advice on the use of a deceased person’s data, particularly in relation to GDPR. They were also seeking to understand what the requirements and restrictions were when it came to requesting a deceased person’s medical records. These legal questions were central to being able to continue in their aim of ending the suicide epidemic.
We matched Stigma Statistics with Campbell Unsworth at VCXY who is currently providing them with a full year of legal pro bono support to help them address these questions.
